Company Profile

The University of Maryland, College Park (UMCP) is the flagship campus of the state’s higher educational system and a top-ranked public research institution. Chartered in 1856 as a small agricultural school, UMCP is the original land-grant institution in the State.  The University today serves over 39,000 students from all 50 states and 118 countries.  Located on 1,250 acres of rolling land in the Baltimore-Washington DC corridor, UMCP is a global leader in research, entrepreneurship, and innovation. The University is committed to preeminence as a national center of research and graduate education, and as the institution of choice for Maryland’s undergraduates of exceptional ability and promise.

Both the campus and the surrounding area have experienced a meteoric rise over the past five years.  $1 billion in new construction has transformed the physical attributes of the campus, including new academic buildings, apartment complexes, and research facilities.  The College Park area is growing with a dynamic combination of start-ups, incubators, restaurants, retail, and the arts.  These enhancements have helped College Park become one of the top college towns in the country.

The Division of University Relations and the University of Maryland College Park Foundation oversee all development and alumni relations activities on behalf of UMCP.  Under the leadership of a highly experienced and capable Foundation President and Vice President of University Relations, UMCP began a $1.5 billion comprehensive campaign in July 2104 - the most ambitious and comprehensive fundraising effort in the University’s history.  Fearless Ideas: The Campaign for Maryland will empower UMCP to drive progress on a worldwide scale in areas of policy, science, arts and technology.  The campaign will infuse new resources and targeted investments to expand UMCP’s research enterprise, recruit and retain stellar students and ground-breaking faculty, and broaden and deepen the University’s community impact.

In preparation for the launch of the public phase of the campaign in October 2017, the University aspires to further enhance its advancement programs and initiatives by expanding its resources.  The Division of University Relations seeks a Senior Director of Development for University Initiatives to develop strategies and lead fundraising activities for university-wide initiatives resulting out of the Fearless Ideas: The Campaign for Maryland, and eventually beyond the close of the campaign.
